  • IMPORTANT MISS HT CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT

    Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:51 pm

Hello ladies...I have an important announcement to make, but before I do, I'd like you all to know the history behind this contest.

When I first came up with the idea for Miss HT, the concept was simple: invite all of our female readers to send in photos and info about themselves and choose the cutest, coolest ones to feature in the magazine each month. Then, at the end of the year, have the HT staff choose a winner and fly her to NYC for a professional photo shoot, put her on the cover and/or centerfold, and give her a free trip to the Cannabis Cup. That's what we did the first year, in 2006, with our first winner Jenni.

Then in 2006, Steve Hager came back as our editor in chief, and had the idea to take that concept, turn it into an event and sell tickets. So in the spring of 2007, we flew 8 finalists down to Jamaica for the first ever Miss HT Pageant. We thought it would be cool to do our version of a Sports Illustrated-style swimsuit issue. So instead of having one photo shoot with the winner, we did photos shoots all week with all of the girls. At the end of the week, we crowned Sarah our Miss HT for 2007. Our first swimsuit issue with Sarah on the cover came out that May, and was our biggest seller of the year (thanks partly to our appearance on Howard Stern).

It appeared we'd stumbled upon a formula for success, so we went back to Jamaica in spring 2008 with our next crop of finalists and took even more photos. We took so many beautiful photos in fact that when we got back, we decided not only to put our new Miss HT Aum on the cover, but to do a separate special edition Swimsuit Issue with nothing but photos of girls and ganja. Then in 2009, instead of going back to Jamaica, we decided to have the pageant right in NYC as part of our 420 Party on April 20th. We flew some of the finalists here to compete and had a very successful event. Which brings us now to 2010.

With 4/20 fast approaching and most of this year's finalists chosen and eagerly anticipating news, we have thought long and hard about where this contest should go from here. After much discussion, we've decided to return the contest to its roots. So for 2010, there will not be a Miss HT Pageant event. Instead, the HT staff will determine the winner based on the photos and personal information the finalists have provided to us in their online profiles and their emails (like we did the first year). The winner will still win a trip to the Cannabis Cup, and will still get a photo shoot (the details of which will be worked out later) and other cool prizes. In addition, from now on every girl chosen as a finalist will receive two free Judge passes to the Cannabis Cup (a $500 value)—this includes all previous finalists for 2010. They will all also get their own email addresses on

    misshightimes.com

    .

I realize many of you may be disappointed, but keep in mind that my original vision for the contest was simply to give you all an opportunity to be in the magazine, to be seen and heard in the pot community, to connect with one another, and to show the world the diversity and beauty of our readership. We don't need a pageant to do that—I think our redesigned

    misshightimes.com

and new finalists prizes achieve that just fine.

I believe the finalists we've chosen this year represent some of the most beautiful and sincere stoner girls in the country, and I'm positive that when we choose our new Miss HT for 2010 she will be a worthy successor to the crown and a smokesmodel that you'll all be proud of. We will be letting you know soon about when we plan to announce a winner. In the meantime, I hope you'll all continue to enjoy the website and keep showing the world what all us guys know to be true—stoner chicks rule.

Thank you all for your understanding, your participation, and your devotion.... and good luck!

    Bobby Black

  • Email From our friend Sanjeev Bery at ASA..THE RAIDS CONTINUE.

    Sun Aug 16, 2009 2:52 pm

Below I have attatched an email from our dear friend at ASA who has brought us once again...bad news. Please be sure to lend me your thoughts , opinions and question on this. I will be writting blogs in the future , as I find no time to inbetween my life at the moment.

On Wednesday, officers representing seven different law enforcement agencies conducted raids in Los Angeles on two medical marijuana dispensaries and the owner’s home.

Dozens of officers representing the DEA, FBI, IRS, LA County Sheriff, and three city police departments executed the paramilitary style raids, which included helicopter air support. According to the Los Angeles Times, they even shot the dog.

While nothing yet is confirmed, ASA has learned that the raids may have been conducted over allegations of tax evasion and failure to pay workers’ compensation. This does not seem to justify the presence of seven different law enforcement agencies.

Despite California law and recent court decisions, are medical marijuana facilities still being singled out? Heavy-handed tactics like these seem to contradict the President’s stated intentions of creating a new federal policy on medical marijuana.

It is time for a sensible national policy on medical marijuana.

  • Why Marijuana should be legal!

    Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:39 pm

    -

Liberty: people deserve freedom to use marijuana. The first and most basic reason that marijuana should be legal is that there is no good reason for it not to be legal. Some people ask 'why should marijuana be legalized?" but we should ask "Why should marijuana be illegal?" From a philosophical point of view, individuals deserve the right to make choices for themselves. The government only has a right to limit those choices if the individual's actions endanger someone else. This does not apply to marijuana, since the individual who chooses to use marijuana does so according to his or her own free will. The government also may have a right to limit individual actions if the actions pose a significant threat to the individual. But this argument does not logically apply to marijuana because marijuana is far less dangerous than some drugs which are legal, such as alcohol and tobacco.

Individuals deserve the right to decide whether or not they should use marijuana. The government should not tell individuals what to do as long as they do not harm others.

COST: keeping marijuana illegal is expensive.

The second important reason that marijuana should be legal is that it would save our government lots of money. In the United States, all levels of government (federal, state, and local authorities) participate in the "War on Drugs." We currently spend billions of dollars every year to chase peaceful people who happen to like to get high. These people get locked up in prison and the taxpayers have to foot the bill. We have to pay for food, housing, health care, attorney fees, court costs, and other expenses to lock these people up. This is extremely expensive! We could save billions of dollars every year as a nation if we stop wasting money locking people up for having marijuana. In addition, if marijuana were legal, the government would be able to collect taxes on it, and would have a lot more money to pay for effective drug education programs and other important causes.

We would have more money to spend on important problems if marijuana were legal.

Failure: prohibition doesn't help. The third major reason that marijuana should be legal is because prohibition does not help the country in any way, and causes a lot of problems. There is no good evidence that prohibition decreases drug use, and there are several theories that suggest prohibition might actually increase drug use (i.e. the "forbidden fruit" effect, and easier accessibility for youth). One unintended effect of marijuana prohibition is that marijuana is very popular in American high schools. Why? Because it is available. You don't have to be 21 to buy marijuana -- marijuana dealers usually don't care how old you are as long as you have money. It is actually easier for many high school students to obtain marijuana than it is for them to obtain alcohol, because alcohol is legal and therefore regulated to keep it away from kids. If our goal is to reduce drug consumption, then we should focus on open and honest programs to educate youth, regulation to keep drugs away from kids, and treatment programs for people with drug problems. But the current prohibition scheme does not allow such reasonable approaches to marijuana; instead we are stuck with 'DARE' police officers spreading lies about drugs in schools, and policies that result in jail time rather than treatment for people with drug problems. We tried prohibition with alcohol, and that failed miserably. We should be able to learn our lesson and stop repeating the same mistake.

Prohibition does not work. Education and treatment are better ways to address the drug problem.

There are plenty of other reasons why marijuana should be legal. Just to name a few: Medicinal use: Marijuana can be used as medicine because it helps to stimulate apetite and relieve nausea in cancer and AIDS patients.

Hemp: The hemp plant is a valuable natural resource. Legalizing marijuana would eliminate the confusion surrounding hemp and allow us to take advantage of hemp's agricultural and industrial uses.

:Religious use: Some religions instruct their followers to use marijuana. Just like Christianity and Judaism instruct their followers to drink wine on certain occaisions, some Hindus, Buddhists, Rastafarians, and members of other religions use marijuana as part of their spiritual and religious ceremonies. These people deserve the freedom to practice their religion as they see fit. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says that the government cannot 'prohibit the free exercise' of religion, and so marijuana should be legal.

  • The Dollar Store surprise!

    Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:36 pm

    -

    This ^^^ Is the Shotgun.

One of my good friends works at the dollar store and while at work he was putting up a new display of pool toys. One of these toys were water squirters that you hold underwater, pull back a handle, then aim at something or someone and push the handle back in. Quite simple, but a lot of water fun. An idea struck my pal, he had a plan to turn this toy into a tool. The end of the toy where the water shoots out, that is transformed into the carb as well as the mouthpiece. The pulling back of the hand is acting as you taking a rip. We cut a hole at the end of the toy by the carb to make the bowl piece out of aluminum and tape. A teamwork piece, but a mighty hit. One person must light the bud, then one must pull back the handle while another holds the carb, or  the person lighting may do so as well. Watching the neon color plastic dollar treat fill up with smoke I'd say is the best part besides the high you recieve from it. The name Shotgun was appointed to it becuase it feels like you have just recieved multiple blunt shotguns straight to the noggin. A summer blast!
